Discover the rich history of Steamboats with a photo presentation by Dan Sherman.

New York led the world in developing commercially viable steamboats, and the Hudson River was a proving ground for new and improved engines and designs.
Steamboats revolutionized travel in the Hudson valley prior to the railroad era with elegant and swift night boats, the Day Line, and excursion boats for the lucrative passenger trade. In addition, ferry crossings and freight hauling made the Hudson River — from Manhattan to Albany and points in between — a busy nautical highway.
How did this transportation revolution on the Hudson River start, and when and why did it end? Why not come and find out more!
